SARCOPENIA is the age-related, progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass, strength, and function, leading to weakness, balance problems, falls, and reduced independence, often seen in older adults but also linked to inactivity, poor nutrition, chronic illness, or even obesity (sarcopenic obesity).
Caused by factors like aging, hormonal changes, inactivity, and inflammation, it can significantly decrease quality of life and increase disability. Sarcopenia is a leading root cause of nursing home admissions when individuals no longer have the strength to perform basic activities of daily living.

Weight bearing exercise strength -resistance training along with a protein-rich diet can help slow, prevent, or even reverse Sarcopenia.
